There are a couple pattern designers that I absolutely love how they write their patterns...One of them is Christine Welsh at ChrisW Designs. She is AMAZING at what she does. Chris designed a pattern that I made years ago and is still one of my favorite bags. It is called the Snazzy Slouch...you can find the pattern here.
I talked to Chris about doing a live video on Facebook since I had a few of the pattern cut out. She loved the idea and we gave it a test run. The live video was a hit and I had a blast making it! Now I just need to figure out how to save them to the computer and edit the video down because when you get to chatting and showing every step it makes for a long video.
You can watch Part 1 of the live video here. And then you can check out Part 2 here! Just remember it is no longer live and some of the conversation may not make sense if you can't read the comments.
I know who will be getting this bag now and I still have to finish the strap...once that happens I will post some finished pictures and then the person receiving it will get it at Christmas time!
Stay tuned for more sew a longs! I am currently doing the Fiona's Freeway bag (it is another ChrisW Designs) live video. I will do a blog post on it soon! But if you are interested join in on the sew a long over in the event here!
Drop me a comment if you want to see some live videos and what you want to see! I have started a Facebook Group to do random live videos in and try to have some tutorial going but it all takes time to get done... I will not make live videos made from other designers patterns without their permission as I just don't feel that is right. I do have some of my own patterns that I can do live videos of as I make them up so stay tuned for some cool items especially as we get into the holiday season - I LOVE to give meaningful handcrafted gifts and I have a bunch to make and all different.
PS: If you want to check out the group I have made you can find it here: Oh Sew Mandi
With the new school year approaching, they start down here on August 10th (oh my goodness that is early), I have done some soul searching. Steven and I love to do horse shows and craft fairs but they just take so much time, money, and energy that we have decided to stop doing them for the foreseeable future. It just takes too much time away from our girls and while they are great sports about it, I know it isn't fun for them to spend their Saturdays out in the hot sun and humidity while their Momma tries to sell her handcrafted goods!
In the soul searching, I have realized I want to finish my degree and go back to school for my Bachelors in Education. Jodie is going into Kindergarten and Maggie goes into 2nd grade so this is the perfect time for me to get back on the horse and finish my schooling. I will be a substitute teacher in their school as well this year to get my feet wet so life just got really busy. This has led to some other changes...
The biggest change is with the business - I will still be creating and selling my goods but on a much smaller scale. Trying to get a small handcrafted business to grow and succeed is time consuming, expensive, and you often hear that your products are overpriced. It does get to you.
Cherished Horsehair will now be custom order only. If I happen to get the itch to create some non custom pieces then I will put them for sale after they are done but I'm no longer going to be carrying inventory on those. I will keep my items up here for the custom orders and after the first of the year I will put ready to ship items as I make them on my Cherished Horsehair Facebook page.
Cherished Crafty Creations is changing too! I am no longer taking custom orders on this. The process of picking fabrics or beads, planning exactly what you want, changing it around, and so on is just too time consuming and requires excessive raw materials to be stocked and they may sit around for a long time before it gets used. I will be making products as I get the time and some of the items will be made doing sew a longs (or craft a longs). The products that are made to sell will be posted in the store. You may find jewelry, lanyards, signs, planner and bible cases, art portfolios, wallets, totes, purses, or anything else that we create there! Just know that they are all handcrafted and if they don't make the quality control cut then they will not be posted for sale...those often times get gifted, donated, or handed to the girls to play with.
Part of what I love about making is getting to show others how to be creative and makers. We live in a society where things are becoming disposable. I want to make things that last and are made with blood, sweat, and tears (those needles hurt!). I am self taught thanks to trial, error, creativity, YouTube, tutorials, and some amazing Facebook groups. If you want to make something...YOU CAN! I will be doing tutorials (as best as I can) on how I make things - it is not necessarily the correct way or the wrong way but it is the way that works best for me at the time. Remember what works best for me may not be best for you but take what you learn and change it around to suit you!
So, stay tuned for some awesome things to come and feel free to make suggestions on what you would like to see here.
WoW! What a long weekend we just had but boy was it a great one! We were vendors at the APHA horse show in Jacksonville Florida where we set up Thursday evening and tore down last night. We were able to use our new set up and it was AMAZING! Steven was a great help as normal and the girls were great entertainment for the long days. Maggie is a future entrepreneur for sure! She was telling customers all about the products that her Momma makes and to make sure you check out the website, CherishedHorsehar.com, anytime and and to give her Momma a call with any questions. She was so polite and the customers LOVED her.
I have quite a few custom horsehair orders to get through this week along with more paperwork trying to get all the business part taken care of and nice and organized...boy is that a task! In the long run it will be worth it though. I want to get this website going more too with more listings to make it easier on people to order straight from here.
Thanks to everyone for making this past weekend a success. We are truly a blessed family to be able to do this and enjoy some family time working together.
My first post!
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for checking out my blog... I am excited to get the NEW website up and running and allow for ordering to happen right on the website instead of customers having to email me for an order form, print it off, fill it out, then send it to me for a custom horsehair piece. NOW you can do it all (except sending in tail hair if that is what you are doing) from the Cherished Horsehair tab on this website! How amazing is that?
A little note about ordering a custom horsehair product - I don't have the bead selection and charm selection listed yet so please contact me what you are looking for and I can put together some options and we can go from there. I will be working towards having that selection on here as well but these websites take time!
So, who knew it was so hard to build a website? OH MY GOODNESS! I have about thrown my computer out the window many times over the past week JUST working on getting a few test items in the shop. Thankfully customer service with 1&1 (my website hosting place) is incredible and are available 24/7 to help me with all my website needs (lots of them lol). I know this is a work in progress and I have big plans for the site but please let me know if you find any glitches or can see things from your end that may work better a different way! I am open to suggestions.
Thanks for reading and visiting,
Our little selfie...Me, Maggie, and Jodie! Steven (the hubby) was off on training.
